APRIL 2022

Can you believe that it is April already?? We are moving forward with "Everything is Possible" as our Mindset this month. We are encouraging students with postive thoughts and ideas! Allowing students to really focus on the power of their thoughts and words. We believe that our students can achieve anything as long as they are focused and committed to accomplishing it. Here at Langford, we are supporting our students to DREAM BIG!! During our Counselor Class lessons, we will be looking at  examples of individuals that endured challenges- yet they continued to persevere! Positive thinking is beneficial for the brain and the body. Sharing this information with our students is a great way to support a shift in their mindset and inspire them to believe that they are capable of doing GREAT things!  Fifth grade students are learning about the Arts programs that the district has to offer in middle school and they will receive a visit from a 6th grade counselor on 4/20.  The month of March is here and we will be focusing on the "100% Accountable" mindset. During this month, we are exploring the concept of students being responsible for their own success and helping students to understand the effect of negative thoughts. Students will be encouraged to focus their energy on achieving goals despite having challenges and setbacks. Our fifth grade students will be exploring a middle school schedule and beginning to think about selections for their middle school electives. Our goal is to have our students understand the power of positive thinking. It can can affect your mood, your thoughts and emotions. We are 100% accountable for ourselves- we will not blame others. Instead we will own our choices, words and actions. How can parents help with this Mindset at home? Model accountability! Have conversations about being accountable. Asking your student what they have learned in school about being accountable is a GREAT way to get that conversation st

Our Mindset this month is "Passion First." This mindset will allow students to connect their interests with possible career options. It is never too early to expose children to the world of employment opportunities. In grades 3-5 during Counselor Class, students will be completing career interest surveys. This provides students in our upper grade levels the opportunity to explore careers and career families/clusters, such as artistic, investigative, enterprising and conventional careers. Grades K-2 will be expanding their knowledge of careers and career titles.  This month is one in which we also recognize National School Counseling Week from February 7-11!! During this time students and staff will take a look at the role of the school counselor within our school. Knowing what the school counselor does is important so that students can identify that counselors are here to support them in career development, social emotionally, and academically.  We would like to thank everyon

Happy New Year, Langford families! During the month of January, we revisit our Mindset of "We are Connected." This is a great time to remind students that we are a family here at Langford and that are actions can affect those around us because we are connected! Another aspect of being connected is maximizing positive relationships. Third and Fourth grade students will think about their personal heroes and write letters to them. Our PK-2 students will learn the importance of being an "includer." Inclusion is a huge piece of feeling connected to something or someone, so we are making sure that students know how to do that. Fifth grade students will be learning about interview skills as they prepare for their upcoming Magnet program interviews for middle school.  The Community Service Club will is hosting an project that will benefit the Pawmetto Lifeline Animal Shelter in Columbia. We are collecting DAWN dishwashing liquid, lanudry detergent, cat & dog toys, and

December 2021

In November, we collected over 400 canned goods for Harvest Hope Food Bank! Thank you to our Langford family for always supporting your local community and the efforts of the Langford Community Service Club.   December is here! We are focusing on the Mindset - "Live to Give!" This Mindset goes hand in hand with our previous Mindset of an "Attitude of Gratitude!" During this month, students will explore making a difference through giving. We want our students to know that giving comes in many forms. Giving can come in the form of time, talents, and even compliments! We are excited to see what gifts that students share with their Langford family.  Middle school students will begin their middle school transition lessons during their Counselor Class times. This will include examining Magnet programs at different middle schools within the district, preparing for interviews and having an opportunity to ask questions about the structure of a middle school day (classes, ele

November is here and we are shifting our mindset to "Attitude of Gratitude!" Students will be reminded to be thaknful for the things and people that we all have in our lives. This month, we will also host our Carolina v. Clemson canned food drive! All proceeds from the canned food drive will go to Harvest Hope. During Counselor Class this month, students will think about how to also express their thanks and gratitude to others. In addition to having an attitude of gratitude, we are also going to look at how having an attitude of gratitude can make you feel!! Studies have shown that showing gratitude leads to feelings of happiness and joy!! Are you wondering how you can support this mindset at home? Model it! Show your gratitude to others! Practice telling and showing your gratitude toward others so that your student can see and hear your attitude of gratitude.
