December

Image
Our Mindset for the month of December is "Live to Give!" This Mindset complements the month of December perfectly. As we are in the season of giving. Social-emotional lessons for the month will center around giving to others rather than receiving our gifts. In addition to having students explore giving versus receiving, students will be challenged to think about how they can make a difference. Lastly, we will address that it is okay to receive but that when we receive, we receive with grace and offer our most sincere thanks to those that have chosen to give to us.  How can you support our social emotional learning at home? As always, modeling this behavior and mindset is a great way to not only tell but show your students these mindsets! When we return to school in 2021, we will review our Mindset that We are Connected. The start of the new year is a perfect time to have a refresher lesson for students that we are all connected here at Langford as a family.  During our winter

November

The month of November will bring about change for this school year as we transition to Phase 2. Students that have opted to do so can/will return to he building on Nov. 4th. Students can expect to receive both face to face social emotional support services, as well as, virtual social-emotional support  from the School Counselor during Phase 2. Students that are in the building will receive a monthly classroom visit from the school counselor and students that are virtual will also receive these lessons if they are logged on during Counselor Class time. Students can also visit Mrs. Davis' Google Classroom to view the monthly social emotional lesson and a daily activity/discussion with their peers.  The Mindset for the month of November is "Attitude of Gratitude!" How fitting! We are thankful for the health and safety of our students, their families and our staff. Students will focus on the attitude of gratitude during this month by having discussions focused around things

This month we will be observing anti-bullying activities. Our activities will be a little different than our traditional "in building" observations, however, we are encouraging our students to participate at home. During our anti-bullying activities, we will be reviewing the district's policy on bullying. How can you support your child at home during these activities? By supporting school related activities during these observations and having conversations about bullying. Information and activities for students regarding their social-emotional well-being are issued and discussed in the School Counselor's Google classroom. If your child does not have this classroom code, please feel free to contact me and I can send the code via email. You can click in the "classroom" below for additional resources.  Contact Information- lasdavis@richland2.org

WELCOME BACK!!!

🐾Welcome back Langford students and parents! 🐾 We have missed each and everyone of you! We are excited to start our school year. It may be a little different than we are used to, yet, we are committed to providing students with a premier educational experience. We will begin our year focused on the Mindset that "We are Connected." We understand that not being in the same physical space with each other can pose feelings of disconnect, that is why this particular mindset is extremely important as we begin our year. Logging into scheduled class meetings and instructional times are great ways to increase feelings of connection. Encourage and support your student to log in and participate with their teacher and classmates! Catch up with friends to during a Google Meet to see how they are doing!  The school counselor will provide virtual lessons for students in Google classroom, as well as supporting teachers and students as needed. MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD

Image
Even though our physical school buildings are closed, we are doing our very best to maintain consistency via technology during this time. The month of April is the month of the Military child! This month is dedicated to military children around the world. During this month, we want to celebrate and acknowledge the sacrifices made by military children. Below is the schedule of our virtual spirit week to celebrate the month of the military child. Please join us by participating in these spirit days! Did you know... Military students move on average 6-9 during their K-12 years of school. Military families relocate 10 times more often than civilian families- on average every 2-3 years. More than 900,000  children have experienced the deployment of one of both parents multiple times. Sources: Grisolano Center for Neurodevelopment. This month has come with a load of changes for us here within the district. Please know that even though are schools are closed, your school counselor is still available to our students and their families. This is a time that may feel really strange to our students as they are accustomed to being inside of our building weekly. I am available via email and will do my best to reply to them to address your needs. As things continue to develop and change, as parents you can support and reinforce what we were working on at school with our Mindset of being 100% accountable. Some students were already provided this lesson and discussed ways and ideas that they can be accountable at home and at school. Again, know that we are missing the faces of our students that we are so used to seeing. Also, I am only an email away if you or your student requires assistance. Thank you and stay well. Please view the video below for information on how to connect with Mrs. Davis during this time. O

It is the month of March! We are focusing on being 100% Accountable this month. Students will take time to examine what it means to be 100% accountable at all times. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own actions. Allowing students to understand that all choices have consequences. Taking responsibility for the choices they make is a part of growth. Our monthly bulletin board reminds students to not place blame on others. All month long, we will have these reminders during Counselor Class with all grade levels. PK-2 will focus on making good choices by reading "What If Everyone Did That?" These students will complete a choice making activity as a class. We want students to take accountability and to own their lives!

It's February already! During the month of February we will celebrate National School Counselor Week! This is a week of advocacy for School Counselor's. School Counselors do their best to bring attention to their comprehensive school counseling programs and what those programs accomplish on behalf of our students, teachers and families. Students were able to express what their school counselor does and a bulletin board in the main hallway. Kindergarten through Second grade students were challenged to write about their school counselor and submit them to Mrs. Davis. We will also focus on our Mindset of "Passion First." Students will be identifying their passions and values that are important to them. We want to empower students to find things that they love to do them! Ways that you can reinforce what we are learning at school? Talk to your student about what they enjoy. Ask your student what a value is. Have your student give you one value that is important to them
The month of January is the start to many new things- including a new addition to our Langford family! The counseling department now has an intern! We are so happy to have her be a part of our team as she learns about a comprehensive school counseling program at the elementary level. During the month of January we will review our mindset of "We are Connected." This mindset reinforces that what we do and say effects others. This mindset will combined with a "buck filling" for grades K-2. Grades 3-5 will watch a short video that documents a high school student that created a club so that no student had to eat alone during lunch. Our goal is have our students that their words and actions are valuable and we should be using them to kind, helpful and respectful. Did we cover this mindset already? Yes, we did! This was our first mindset during the month of August. However, with the winter break just behind us, we thought this would be a great reminder of how we are a
