Welcome back, Labs! I hope that you all had a safe and pleasant summer. We are excited to begin the new school year and we are looking forward to great things! Our Mindset during the first few weeks of school will again be "We are Connected." Starting off with this Mindset, provides students with thoughts of being a part of our Langford family. We are a family here at Langford and we want students to know and feel the sense of family. Students are cared for here at Langford each and everyday. As your School Counselor, please know that I am able to assist and support  students, staff and families. Do not hesitate to call or email me if you require assistance. School Counselors offer support in academics, social emotional, career and personal growth.

October is a busy month! In the month of October we observe bully prevention month and Red Ribbon Week. This month hosted a bully poster contest and we are working on a school wide banner of Duck Tape to show that we "Stick Together" against bullying. All classroom lessons provided by the counselor this month are focused on educating our students on exactly what bullying is. We want our students to be knowledgeable about bullying, what it looks like, how to handle it if they see it and consequences for bullying behavior. I know that parents often are concerned about bullying behaviors but here at Langford, we want our parents to know that we are committed to keeping students safe and listening to student concerns. This month has come with a load of changes for us here within the district. Please know that even though are schools are closed, your school counselor is still available to our students and their families. This is a time that may feel really strange to our students as they are accustomed to being inside of our building weekly. I am available via email and will do my best to reply to them to address your needs. As things continue to develop and change, as parents you can support and reinforce what we were working on at school with our Mindset of being 100% accountable. Some students were already provided this lesson and discussed ways and ideas that they can be accountable at home and at school. WELCOME BACK LABS!! It feels so good to be back in school!! I have met many new Labs and I've seen Labs from last year. We are trying something new at Langford this year, we will be focusing on The 7 Mindsets. The 7 Mindsets, focuses on the students' social emotional well-being. Our first Mindset of the year is "We are Connected." Starting off the year, letting students know that we are a family here at Langford. We will work as a school on these Mindsets daily. We are also looking to increase the number of mentors in our mentoring program this year. If you or someone you know has time in their schedule and would enjoy being a source of encouragement in the life of a student, please have them contact the school. Mentors create their own schedule and all visits are here at school during the school day. The ONLY requirement is a background check. The more mentors we have, the more students we can support!
