In the month of December we focused on the mindset of Live to Give! Student explored what that truly means. Students were encouraged to think of things to give that were not available in stores but things that come straight from the heart. When we return in January, we will revisit our mindset of being connected. This will serve as a reminder to our students that we are a family here at Langford and we are ALL connected. With that being said, your school counselor wishes   all of our Langford families a very safe and happy holiday season!
For the month of November, we are back to focusing on our 7 Mindsets. The Mindset for the month of November is "Attitude of Gratitude." Students will focus on being thankful for things they have but also things they treasure about themselves. Grade K-2 will place the things they treasure about themselves in a treasure box that they can keep to remind them of these special things about them. Grades 3-5 will also be focusing on things that they treasure about themselves. This month is one that will be filled with ways to give back to others as we will also be hosting our annual Carolina v. Clemson Canned Food Drive. As always, the best way for you to support what we do at school is to model and "attitude of gratitude" at home for your child to see! There is always something to be thankful for!

KINDNESS Month

Kindness!! Within Richland School District Two, we are officially celebrating kindness this month! At Langford, we have an Act of Kindness Calendar that we will be following as well as few super fun activities planned. Our first activity is creating a kindness quilt. All students will receive a quilt square that they can decorate. Once completed, the squares will then be assembled all together to make our school-wide kindness quilt. We will also have secret kindness agents, a Kind Class Competition and opportunities for students to get "Caught Being Kind!" We are excited to begin this month's activities. I will share the Kindness Calendar here for you to see what kind acts students are being encouraged to do here at school. What can you do to support kindness month at home? Create acts of kindness that you all can do as a family within your home and your community.
WELCOME BACK LABS!! It feels so good to be back in school!! I have met many new Labs and I've seen Labs from last year. We are trying something new at Langford this year, we will be focusing on The 7 Mindsets. The 7 Mindsets, focuses on the students' social emotional well-being. Our first Mindset of the year is "We are Connected." Starting off the year, letting students know that we are a family here at Langford. We will work as a school on these Mindsets daily. We are also looking to increase the number of mentors in our mentoring program this year. If you or someone you know has time in their schedule and would enjoy being a source of encouragement in the life of a student, please have them contact the school. Mentors create their own schedule and all visits are here at school during the school day. The ONLY requirement is a background check. The more mentors we have, the more students we can support! I am super excited for another productive year hear at Langfo

The month of May has arrived and the character trait of the  month is perseverance. During classroom lessons students will be given activities that intentionally challenge them. We will then discuss the challenge and what it truly means to persevere. The observance of Teacher Appreciation Week is also within the month of May. We will make sure that our teachers and staff know how much we appreciate them not just during this week but every single day! What can I do as a parent to support/foster the character trait if perseverance? Have conversations with your student about the word. Ask what do they hear about the word in school? What was the classroom lesson with the counselor like and as always model perseverance for your student. If at anytime you are looking to speak to me, I can be contacted by phone or email. 691-4091- x 33402 lasdavis@richland2.org Below are the Labs Leading the way for the week! Congratulations to these students for PAWS-ing for great effort!

April is here and we are celebrating the Month of the Military Child! We will have various activities throughout the month to applaud our military students and the resiliency they display as they lead a life that is full of change, goodbyes and newness. We have collaborated with Blythewood High School JROTC and they will be honoring us with a drill team presentation. In addition to Soldiers from Ft. Jackson coming to conduct a PT day with students, we are also hosting a military art fair. Military students will have the opportunity to correspond with students that attend C.C. Pickney Elementary School on Fort Jackson as well as a DoDEA school overseas!! Lots of fun activities planned to say "THANK YOU" to our military students here at Langford. You can contact me at 691-4091 x33402 or at lasdavis@richland2.org with questions and concerns. Below is a picture of the Labs Leading the Way for the week of April 22nd. Way to go, Labs!

March

Image
The month of March is here and I hope that spring will soon be upon us! This month we are again focused on one of the 7 Mindsets- " we are connected ." Students will learn about cultivating positive peer relationships and how/why these connections are important as well as teamwork and cooperation! We will read stories, see illustrations and create our very own pictures that will show how connected we are. We will be reading "The Crayon Box that Talked" which is a wonderful story of how "alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." What can you do at home to support the social emotional learning that we are doing at school? As always, model ways to cooperate and work well with others. Read books to support the idea of cooperation and have discussion on what cooperation looks like. If you ever have a question and would like to speak to me, please do not hesitate to call or email me at lasdavis@richland2.org or 691-4091 x33402. Below is a ph

FEBRUARY

Image
National School Counseling Week is celebrated in February and man, oh, man did we celebrate here at Langford!! It was a week that I will never forget! The week was filled with loving compliments all around the school! I truly felt appreciated! The PTO, SIC, and administrators outdid themselves with a lovely surprise presentation on the news show. As we continue to move through this month, we have begun our 7 Mindsets lessons with students and this month we are focused on the theme of "LIVE to GIVE." Our lessons are centered around generosity. Grades K-2 are reading about generosity and identifying it in scenarios. Grades 3-5 are filling up Post-It notes of compliments to their peers.  Students are participating in great discussion and putting what they have learned into ACTION! As always, the best way that you can support the "Counselor Connection" here at Langford is to model generosity for our students at home and within our community.  Our Labs Lea

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

Happy New Year Langford Families! As we move into the second half of the school year, it is great reflect on how far our students have come and how much work we have done with multiple character traits. We will continue to work on our monthly character traits but we will also start working on the 7 Mindsets. The 7 Mindsets includes the following: Everything is possible, Passion First, We are connected, 100% Accountable, Attitude of Gratitude, Live to Give, and The Time is Now. These themes will be incorporated in monthly counselor lessons that our students receive. Another new adventure in the New Year is the start of career lessons with our career development facilitator. Teachers have the opportunity to utilize this resource and expose students to various careers. We are excited about the New Year, New adventures and New opportunities for Langford to educate the whole child. As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Looking forward to an adventu
