December 2021

In November, we collected over 400 canned goods for Harvest Hope Food Bank! Thank you to our Langford family for always supporting your local community and the efforts of the Langford Community Service Club.   December is here! We are focusing on the Mindset - "Live to Give!" This Mindset goes hand in hand with our previous Mindset of an "Attitude of Gratitude!" During this month, students will explore making a difference through giving. We want our students to know that giving comes in many forms. Giving can come in the form of time, talents, and even compliments! We are excited to see what gifts that students share with their Langford family.  Middle school students will begin their middle school transition lessons during their Counselor Class times. This will include examining Magnet programs at different middle schools within the district, preparing for interviews and having an opportunity to ask questions about the structure of a middle school day (classes, ele

November is here and we are shifting our mindset to "Attitude of Gratitude!" Students will be reminded to be thaknful for the things and people that we all have in our lives. This month, we will also host our Carolina v. Clemson canned food drive! All proceeds from the canned food drive will go to Harvest Hope. During Counselor Class this month, students will think about how to also express their thanks and gratitude to others. In addition to having an attitude of gratitude, we are also going to look at how having an attitude of gratitude can make you feel!! Studies have shown that showing gratitude leads to feelings of happiness and joy!! Are you wondering how you can support this mindset at home? Model it! Show your gratitude to others! Practice telling and showing your gratitude toward others so that your student can see and hear your attitude of gratitude.

As we move in to the month of September, we will continue with our Mindset of being connectecd. During the month of September we will also begin some of our usual Langford proograms for students, such as our Labs Leading the Way (Student of the Week) Recognition. Students are selected by their teachers on a weekly basis. Students that are selected are those that have been observed PAWSing for great effort. When we say PAWS, we are referring to: Pausing and Thinking  Act with Purpose  Work  Safety Fisrt  Students that are selected receive a small prize and are also recognized on the morning news show. During this month, we will also resume our Counselor Class lessons. Counselor class consists of social-emotional lessons tha are provided to students on a monthly basis by the school counselor. Can you believe that May is here! We have less than 30 days of our school year left and we are encouraging our students to finish strong! During this month, the time that students spend in Counselor Class will be focused on their online safety. During the summer, we know that students' screen time can increase as they are not attending school, there is no homework to complete and they are at home for longer periods of time. With that being said, focusing on online safety is great way to end the year. Providing lessons and tips for students on ways to be SAFE online.  Our Mindset for the month is the Time is Now! This mindset encourages students to "go for it!" Our students can accomplish and achieve goals -even in elementary school. This Mindset is particularly important for our students that are preparing to take state assessments. We will be encouraging students to do their best on the test!!  How can you support these efforts at home? Talk to your students about test t

Spring has Sprung!! The pollen has come and our weather is warmer! New things are blooming and sprouting! With that in mind, we are focusing on the Mindset of "Everything is Possible" this month. Students are encouraged to dream and to dream BIG!! We want to empower our students to believe that they can achieve their dreams! An important of this mindset is understanding that mistakes are okay. It is important to learn from them and then continue to move forward. Looking for ways that you can support these mindsets at home? Demonstrate goal setting and achievement! When you make a mistake, model the art of using that mistake as a learning opportunity.  April is also the Month of the Military Child! During this month, we take out some time to be intentional in appreciating our military students. To show our support and appreciation for our military students, we will have the following activities:  Mondays- Military Monday (Wear Red, White and/or Blue) Tuesdays-Purple Up for Mil

March

February was full of exploration of our passions and interests. Students then connected their passions and interests to possible future career/jobs. Students were able to share their knowledge of careers and what having that career would be like. This month, we transition to being responsible.  Our Mindset for the month of March is "100% Accountable." This Mindset encourages students to be responsible. During this month, students will be encouraged to think for themselves and own their decision-making as well as the consequences that may accompany those choices. Students will also have the opportunity to examine limiting thoughts. Students will be explore how our fears can limit goals, dreams and aspirations. During Counselor Class time, students will think about a goal they want to set for themselves. Within our goal setting, we will also discuss making a plan and the steps needed in order to achieve goals. How can you support this Mindset at home? Discuss what it means to b

February 2021

The month of February is a one that is full of exciting events here at Langford! First our Mindset of the month is - Passion First. This Mindset provides students with the opportunity to think about the things that they are passionate about and how they feel when they are pursuing those things. For our fifth grade students that are pursuing Magnet programs for middle school, these students will have their virtual interviews this month! Fifth grade students have been working on their middle school transition lessons since November and we know that our Langford Labs are going to shine BRIGHT!! Supporting our Passion First mindset at home can be a lot of fun this month. Have conversations with your student about the things that they enjoy doing, then dig deeper and ask "why" they enjoy these things.  The first week in February is National School Counseling Week! During this week, we take time to consider the impact that School Counselors make within our schools. Students will pa

Happy New Year!!

Even though this year has continued be one that is very unique, one thing that has not changed is the fact that we are STILL a family here at Langford! Our Mindset of the month is "We are Connected." We covered this Mindset earlier in the school year, however, we like to do a review of this when students return from winter break. During this month, we will remind students of our connection and how our actions can affect those around us. Students will also explore the meaning of community. During their Counselor Class time with me this month, students will collaborate with their peers to solve questions/puzzles posed to them. You can support this mindset at home by simply modeling kindness towards others, thinking before we act and understanding that we are connected!
